The number of students getting hired by Multi National Companies from the premier IITs and IIMs has dipped over the past few years. The major blow has come from the recession. In 2009, the number of grads hired by MNCs fell to 1600, while the number hired by Indian Privte Sector firms actually increased.

Similar figures are available for job offers in the IIMs – with the same trend appearing. In 2008, MNC hiring stood at around 900 across the 6 IIMs and Indian Private Sector hiring clocked around 500. In 2009, the MNC hiring figure dipped to 500, while the number of hires by Indian Private Sector firms grew to 700!

With competitive salaries, good infrastructure and promising career growth, Indian Private Sector Firms might as well become coveted employers for IIT & IIM grads in the times to come.
